I've found three of these discs over the past several months and have no idea what they are. One of them is marked with an "E," and the others are plain. Any help would be appreciated. I initially thought that they might be buttons of some sort, but none of them have or appear to have ever had a shank. The front is raised in the center and the back is slightly concave.

The one with a hole in it sure looks like the retaining disk for holding on drum brake shoes. The end sat in a compression spring.

I think those have a slotted (-) shaped hole so you can align them with the retaining pin though. At least all the ones I've worked with. Maybe this one is way older?
