British 9lbs cannonball

Spent a couple hours hitting my rev war site after work and found this beauty along with a button,grapeshot and some shot musket balls. Its very close to 4 inches. You can clearly see the British arrow

looks like it has a fuse too. Anyone have any info on these exploding cannonballs? It's heavy maybe it's full of smaller shot? I haven't weighted it yet I'm just guessing its weight

I'm thinking it might be the sprue mark and not a fuse but not sure. It's opposite of the mold seem

Neat, is there any history in the area you found it concerning the Rev. War?

Yes. There was a small battle at this location. Ive found three other cannonballs in the same general area but aren't in this condition. They were found on land this was in the water down in the muck.

I don't know much about Rev war artillery but I didn't think they had many exploding shells then?? Unlike the Civil war.

They were crude but they did. I've found pieces of them before, just never in one piece.

Looks like its not a fuse but a sprue mark from the molding process.
