Default Sniper coil 250 help

Why when I use the sniper coil, I've never dug anything above 2.5"?

Is it simply because there is nothing there over 2.5", or am I doing something wrong? I tried all sensitivities..

Advice appreciated.

I don't have a 250 , but A smaller coil will not get the depth that a larger coil gets. It's possible there is nothing deeper than 2 1/2" but I would believe it's the sniper coil's depth limit .

Stick some coins in the ground and do some testing.

Using the standard coil that came with the 250 should give decent depth , a sniper coil won't deliver the depth that larger coils do . I've never used a 250 but have heard their a good starter detector , you may consider getting larger coil to increase depth . Even soil type & mineralization of the soil can effect the depth a detector gets .

Had one - 3-4 inches max, and only 3 max in mineralized soil - at least here in Cali. Still did great at the tot lots tho...

Yeah its normal for the Ace sniper, very shallow even in comparison to other small coils.

Doesn't sound exactly right.
Since you live in Baltimore, your soil should be pretty good according to hunters in your area that have talked about it in other posts.

Like my F2 sniper, you should probably be getting at least twice that depth...this video shows air testing and a silver dime is close to 6", he mentions in the dirt these air test depths are about the same.
A few other videos on line with the sniper seems to bear this out, also.

Honestly I don't have an ace with the sniper, so this is just from some research online.
Your mileage may very...

On the other hand, I am a jewelry hunter and I have found a bunch of chains, silver objects and rings, and gold rings from very small to large class rings.
Just about all of them were found within your 2 1/2 inch depth.

I have an 250 and use the sniper. In dry conditions it may go 3'' (deeper on buried cans LOL) and in damp 5 - 6''. Soil is not mineralized in my hood so I can run the sensitivity on max.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, really appreciated.

Does it go deeper in damp soil than in the air test?

Most damp soil will give better conductivity with all detector and coil combinations. But with some detectors, and I found this to be true with the Ace series, the sensitivity would have to be lowered a touch due the internals being overwhelmed, depending on which mode and notching was used.
It wouldn't hit any deeper in damp soil than the air test in this guys video. Nice clean little video actually.
