Well I seemed to have successfully repaired my headphones. One of the wires broke right where they go into the jack that plugs into detector. The problem was caused from too much bending when I would kneel down to dig and keep the detector back further so the coil would be near me on the ground. I only burned myself once while soldering it. I also bought an 8' extension and coiled it twice around the upper handle and then down on the shaft as well. I also heat shrinked my soldering twice, then duct taped it, then electric taped it. I'm certain it won't break in THIS spot anymore. I wrapped the cord around the lower shaft so that while I was digging the cord would be closer to where I was as opposed to coming straight out of the jack on the control box (which is behind me when I'm digging). Hopefully I'll get a chance to try my new set up on Friday or Saturday.
