I've been finding an unusual number of buttons and buckles in my last couple of hunts 70+ buckles and 30+ large Eagle buttons from various manufacturers just scattered all over in no particular pattern. The buckles ring up beautifully so I have to dig them but I'm kinda tired of buckles. Fortunately, I managed to find a few other things too including my first harmonica reed.

Your last item is a sterling "frog" from the back of a military service pin. I have one nearly identical from an Air Corp housing site. Nice find .... now if you could just find the wings that went with it ......

I am with u on getting sick of buckles. I hunt a farm field where ive dug atleast 200 buckles and 50+harmonica reeds. I was excited about the first but dread digging the next one
I even found a harmonica reed that was a foot long

Google Patent Search

Hi HistoryStudent

When I saw the STERLING pinback with two patent numbers, it was pretty obvious what it was, but I wanted to know more about what the patents said and when they were issued.
Google has a PATENT SEARCH Link at www.google.com/patents/ where you can see a copy of the original patent drawing and technical description along with the date issued and who it was issued to. In this case, both patents were issued in 1943 to Ballou & Co. in Providence RI.
Here are the ilnks to the two numbers on your pinback: When you click on the drawing, the first image is not all that clear, but then click the Original Image link and it will allow you to magnify it to allow a much clearer picture:
https://www.google.com/patents/US2308412
https://www.google.com/patents/US2308424

We sometimes find a "WHATZIT" item or part of a bigger item that has a patent number on it and the Patent Search by Google is a great research tool to find the answer.
Got something with a patent number on it? Give it a try. You can also search by inventor's name.
