Painting synthetic gun stock

Picked up a brand new Winchester XPR chambered in .270 a few months back.

Bought it because I got it for $243.00 at Gander Outdoors closing sale, and because I didn't have a .270.

it came with an ugly looking synthetic camo stock.

I want to paint the stock flat or matte black, worry about the barrel/receiver later.

Chose Rustoleum Black and Krylon Matte Black.

Any pros and cons with either choice?

Warm soapy water be enough to clean it before taping and spraying?

Never painted one before.

Yeah, if it were me I'd just search around and get a nice wood grain stock; unsure how the paint is gonna stick to that synthetic and, eventually, it'll likely rub off.

I've used krylon's fusion paint as primer on plastic and it worked very well.wash it and use something to make sure all oils etc are off of it first. Zinsser makes excellent paint/primers too that will stick to anything short of grease. Spray a urethane clear coat over the paint to add durability. I did this with a beat up shotgun and it looked great and lasted through many wet muddy and cold waterfowl and turkey hunts. Good luck

thanks for the advice. I'll go with the Krylon Fusion Matte Black.

if I don't like that, I'll spray over that with the Rustoleum.
