Camp Logan on the shores of Lake Michigan was a rifle range from the 1890s-1970s. Most of it has been removed and left to be a Weed Factory "Nature Preserve".

The rifle ranges were orientated towards lake Michigan, so I took my detector to the beach. I quickly found:

1 - .45-70 Shell casing dated April 1892
2 - two .30-40 Krag bullets that had been fired and in pristine condition because of the sand berms in the area that captured it.

My son and I will be returning there to see what else we can find.

I went and spent half a day yesterday. Being a former range there are bullets everywhere!

I found over a dozen .30 caliber training rounds.

2 .45-70 cases
1 .45 ACP rd
3 .30-06 cases
1 .30 carbine case
2 Stripper Clips
1 .30-30 Remington
5 .30 (Could be Krag, .30-01 or .30-03 bullets) in pristine condition

Due to the sand berms the bullets are almost all perfect.

Also found about a third remaining of a huge rounds about 2 inches in diameter.

I grew up not far from there and it is loaded with military history besides being an absolutely beautiful setting.

Besides the use as a rifle range I always heard rumors that the surrounding dunes were used to practice military vehicle maneuvers on the sand.

There were also rumors that that location may have had local militia type use all the way back to the 1850's-1860s.

Not sure to the accuracy of those rumors but you may find even more there than you were expecting.
