I received permission at a 1760’s farmhouse today and got to swing for a few hours. The conditions were not ideal as the grass was high in the fields and made for a tough day. I was there for about ten minutes and dug the king George copper and thought I was going to hit it out of the park, but that was the only coin I found minus some clad. The silvers seem to elude me in these colonial yards even though you would think in 250 years someone would have had to drop at least a Rosie. The 50th anniversary token is from 1999 so no big score but it definitely made my heart skip a beat when I saw it in the hole. All in all a great day and finished with the king George, which I believe is a 1740 which I gave to the homeowners as it predates the house. I also got a thimble, 1 nice dandy button, a clothing buckle and a D buckle. Hope everyone is well and thanks for looking

Pretty nice finds! I'm sure the home owner was happy and you probably will get an invite back.

I was telling a friend about detecting as we stood in his driveway. His Colonial style house is 160 to 180 yrs old. Yard about 1.5 acres. He asked if I had my detector in my SUV. Yep lets show ya. We head for the largest big pine tree as I'm explaining how people would sit on the eastern side of the tree. Two quick targets both aluminum scrap. Third hit a nice high clean screamer on my little Bounty hunter Discovery 1100. A nice shiny Barber half. 1907. And that's the only old coin that ever came out of that big old yard. Actually almost no more coins but a couple clad. He bought a Euro tech Pro and I a Xterra 705. No more coins. Couple artifacts, a bowl, a little brass box that carried tiny squares of paper for notes. My friend and his parents lived there over 40 years themselves. I thought "Geeze these people dropped anything they must have been on knees until it was found." Now there was other families living there 120 years before our friends. He says " Nobody could have detected there! ! " This house is just the second property off a main road in the middle of Mildale Ct. We thought we would need a duffle bag to carry all the coins we would find. Nope. One oldie and a few clad that was maybe ¢ 65.
Stories like this are more common than we'd like to think. But..... I think someone has detected the place before and my friend was unaware of this even though he's been there 40 yrs. From reading this forum I've read similar posts about an old property not holding coins but a couple clad. So hey, not bad. Congrats on the Biggie!
