Detecting in North Carolina

Hello, my name is Katie and I bought my boyfriend a metal detector a few years ago and has recently gotten back into it. His birthday is coming up in October and I want to take him somewhere where he can use his metal detector, but also be able to enjoy the surronding area while not detecting (perhaps a quaint mountain town or something like that). We live in Charlotte, NC and I am hoping to find someplace within a 3 hour drive. Any suggestions as to where to go would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of places

With out knowing what kind of MDer he has, and what type of hunting he would like to do. Here are a few ideas. Find some parks, try and find those that have saw chips, as this will make for easy digging. And most likley he will find coins. A occasional ring isn't out of the question. Since I too live in NC only about 50 miles from you (Stanly Co) There is a place in Montgomery Co, Uwharrie forrest on hwy #9 out of Troy. Should be about a one hour drive for you. Alot of camp sites, horse trails. LOL
