Need help with military button ID

I dug this button yesterday in Central NY and was wondering if anyone could ID it and the time period. The back mark says Cordier Freres Paris.

From what I can find, the number is the regiment number for an officer / infantryman !

Thanks for the links. It looks like it's French Military somewhere during the 1800's. I don't see how to narrow down the time period.....does anyone?

One of the links above say the buttons were flat until 1821, so you can somewhat date it by its shape that way
