Hello all. I was hunting the woods at a former school house this afternoon. My buddy, coin Rex has had luck at this site including a LC and a GAR pin. Today I found this button. There are no marks on the underside and it was styled without a protruding shank. I broke the back when cleaning, but it had 2 small holes through which to thread. An internet search provided no similar examples. All similar buttons either had a shank or printing on the back. Could this be old military? Thanks everyone.

There were militia units that wore the ball button, but I think yours may be a bit too modern for military. I don't recall any of those with the back you mentioned.

This is the only thing I can think of. I found an old 1800's ladies shoe leather remnants that still had four of these buttons still attatched, similar to yours, although your button seems bigger.
