Ouch! Yes that would really hurt knowing your Barber could have been worth so much! I had the one I found out last evening under a magnifying glass. I hate that I scratched a coin that was in such good shape other than the scratch. I may never find another one with such good detail.
Longbow, I feel your pain. My first Barber was a relatively shallow dime and would have been in VF-XF condition. Like you I got careless and put a big old scratch in it. You won't get over it, but the pain eases...at least until somebody reminds you with a post like this.
