Default Buckle type?

This brass buckle was found next to the stone foundation of a 1760 long house in Vermont. the house is located on the old east west road,1/4 mile from a revolutionary war fort(Fort Warren). the east west road..now old VT rt4 a east..was used by American ,British,German and French soldiers.

i assume tack as its crudely cast on the back. But I have been told by a local historian that it may be a buckle off of a British soldiers shoulder sash,he based that on the size,compostition,brass,and location of find.

Definitely looks like a colonial era buckle, not sure there's enough evidence to make a hypothesis on its origin though. Then again, I'm no expert. Nice find!

By the shape of it a sash buckle looks like a good call. Thinking it would be heavier for tack. Just my thoughts though. Colonial for sure.
