Help! Anyone know what this is?

Found this item fairly deep in a field near Catlett, Va. Field is pretty historical, with Civil War and earlier activity. Iron, measure 2.5 inches wide by 3 inches tall. Seems to have had an edge on the top.

My first thought when seeing it was that it was a wind up key. Perhaps from an old mantel clock?
 
Yeah, me too. Brake or clutch peddle off a circa 1935 🚜 tractor.

Could be. Hoping someone has seen something similar before. Or, hoping it was the edge of a homemade hatchet carried by a Confederate soldier riding with Mosby.....
 
It's an example of the fun it is trying to figure out what the find is. Silver n gold is nice but I've found more "Whatzits" in the past 5 yrs detecting. Its a cool find even if its an old tractor peddle. Hey it may very well be an old Confederate hatchet? Keep it.
