I was stationed in Boeblingen many years ago. Apparently near where your find was.
I remember one time we were called out to help the Polizei track down a missing child. We were searching the woods somewhere south of the kaserne and had to comb through a lot of old overgrown bomb craters.
I wish I'd known about metal detecting at the time.
As I recall the child was found safe and unharmed.
