Found this bullet in the same hole that I found a carved 3 ringer. It is .50 cal. It looks close to a sharps carbine, but the rings don't match. Is it a sharps variant? Thoughts?

I really feel like your bullet is post civil war. Look closely at the rings and see if it looks like there are lines in there. If so, that form of loading didn't come about until around the 1880's if I remember correctly. But give me some exact measurements and cal. and I will keep looking.
 
Definitely a period carbine, believe Waterhead is correct with a 52 Joslyn
