First full hunt of 2019 and one questionable find. Is it a ring? Found at a tot lot. Fits my finger perfect but it has 2020 on it. Graduating year? Read as foil. Very low a 42 on my AT Pro. It passes the magnet test, non-magnetic, but haven't gold tested yet. No marks inside. What do you think, first ring for the year?

I do believe its a ring, doesn't look like gold to me though. The scratch on the stone doesnt look like a gold scratch to me, looks like a harder metal judging by the size of the scratches. Possibly platinum? Not sure, hopefully you can figure it out, nice find!

Hang it from a string and hold a magnet near, looks like stainless, and stainless passes gold tests easy...

I found this one that's similar. I have assumed this was a graduation year. Mine's much too light to be gold though.

Stainless comes in as a low tone...as Ice has said passes acid tests.. it looks stainless to me.

Non-magnetic at all. Would Stainless be magnetic?

Like Ice said try the string method, need a strong (Neodymium) magnet too, it does look stainless. You could also just put it upright on a flat surface then bring the magnet close and see if it rolls to it.

I found out they are called "Companion Rings" and go with a class ring.

NO possible way it is gold. SS will pass the acid test easy. BUT in order to leave a mark on the stone you really have to press hard to get it.

Gold leaves marks on the stone super easy with no effort. After working in a pawn shop for years you get the feel of gold and how to test it.

Congrats on a ring.

I'm guessing Vanadium, a kind of stainless used in rings. It comes in just above iron. Stainless steel can be magnetic or not depending on the metals used in making it. The Vanadium rings I've found have not been magnetic.
