Need help identifying these.

The first came out of my parents yard over Easter weekend. They own a house built in the 70's on what we believe was a farm field prior to their small development being built that same decade. It was 12-13 inches deep, seems to be quite old and in the ground for quite some time based on the Patina build up.

The second item came out of the ground at my sister in laws house. She owns a second property behind her house that sits empty where a much older house was torn down in the 90's. It was only a few inches deep. Until I got it home and cleaned it up, I thought I'd pulled a pocket watch. Much heavier though.

Look at my thing and compare it to your thing!
Kind of similar, huh?? Plus my thing has a "14" on one end (very worn). How about yours?

I also found my thing in the site of an old farm going back well into the 1800's I believe.

First pics, no clue, 2nd with the little wheels on it I know I've seen before and someone is going to ID it and I'll slap myself in the head. I'm thinking automotive window related but just can't quite place it. That piece with the hole in the center reminds me of the part the attaches the road to a pull starter for something. Usually sits inside the rubber handle.

MP, There are definitely some similarities. My wife was thinking door knocker, I was thinking more along the lines of farm implement.

T-Man, I agree, it looks so familiar and I was thinking car part as well. That would fit with where it was found. I believe some old junkers have been stored there in the past, just not currently.

Absolutely no visible writing on yours, SH? I wonder if the 14 on mine is a weight or gauge of some sort. Or I'd surmise maybe it's some kind of shim or special device for removing lids, etc. A churchkey, per se, but one with a more industrial purpose. You know, like for opening those big old milk cans or something maybe? That's just an abstract example really, but you get the idea. I confess, its driving me crazy! I almost think yours is a later and cheaper (no offense, mind you) version of what I have. Mine is cast, yours is more folded...which is really a more modern mass-production type of process. Looking at yours I'd surmise it's from the 1920's maybe. Mine? Late 1800's? And in mine the imperfections of cast molding are more evident.

Both implements look like they were designed to pry or stretch something, the second though I had.is that they were used as counterweights or balances for a centrifugal machine, hence the mysterious number on mine.

Ok, my brainstorming is over for the moment.
Awaiting feedback and reflection from the caucus.

the second thing looks like the wheels you would find on a sliding glass door.

the 4 wheels would have been on a rail and the hole would have been the bolt with a spring to compress it out, attaching it to the bottom/top of the window/door.

but it's too old to be a modern sliding door ... so something that would have used a mechanism like that. could be any number of things.

Absolutely no writing/numbering on mine whatsoever MP. You may well be right on the dating. Hard to say.

That sounds like a very possible explanation Trench. They certainly look like wheels, they don't budge though, can't even begin to get them to rotate.
