Both of these two detectors seem to have the same coil, is that to imply they are both equally "powerful"? Does the power from a metal detector come from the coil or from the unit itself? Is it just software and features that differentiate between the Safari and the E-Trac?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

As a general rule the size of the coil can give you an idea of possible depth. Now that is subject to many different variables.

All things being equal any detector with a 10" coil should get roughly 10" on a coin sized target. Problem with this is that never are all things equal. Whats inside the box matters. The circuits make a lot of difference in all things being equal.

In certain conditions you can see a $100 detector with a 10" coil and a $1000 detector with a 10" coil get the same depth. This is why you see claims that all detectors get the same depth. Because in the right conditions they can. If your conditions are heavily mineralized, then a detector with better ground tracking will perform best is a good example.

Under the right conditions the Safari will perform just as well as the E-Trac. Question is how often do you expect to hunt under these right conditions? In most conditions the E-Trac will out perform the Safari.

The safari doesnt have the seperation ability of the E-Trac.I personaly believe its the software. That being said,The safari is a very Nice machine :) With the E-Trac you get alot of Menu options you wont have on the Safari .Im not sure but you may have more points of discrimination also(Im not sure tho!) .The software and the Extra menu options are what you get with the E-Trac,that u dont with the Safari. In my personal opinion,If you can afford both,Deff get the E-Trac..If you read the forums, you will see many safari users who switched to the E-Trac,went over the same sites and pulled alot of stuff that was missed. Good Luck,HH
