Hi Folks,

I picked up a Rock Island 1911 A1 brand new for $399,

This pistol is awesome for twice the price. It is my first
1911 and it has been flawless and very accurate.

The only thing I did not care for was the blond grips. So
I sanded the old finish off and stained them. I finished
them with polyurethane varnish.

Before and after,

Thanks fer L@@kin,

Hey Tabdog,

Is that the 45 cal version or the newer 38 cal?

Anyway, it is a good quality affordable firearm, made in the Philippines. They know how to make good quality guns over there.

Hay Rudy,

Mine is the 45.

I am very impressed with it.

Glad I finally pulled tha trigger,

More of a redhead if you ask me! Nice looking pistol!

Good call on the stain Tab!! She looks alot better if you ask me
Now that you've pulled the trigger, have you pulled the trigger yet ? :?:
Nice piece :waytogo:

Hay Digger,

I have 149 rounds through it. That's three boxes. (-1)

One of the Winchester White Box rounds failed to feed. The
casing was so swollen that it would not go in the chamber.

That's Winchesters fault!!!

Just as so many other RIA users have said;

It has been flawless so far.

BUT! When I got it,

I cleaned it out with gun scrubber. I mean, I flooded the firing
pin, spring and inside the frame and blew it out with compressed
air.

I smoothed off the feed ramp and barrel ramp, along with places
on the slide and slide grooves, Etc.

I re-lubed it, greased it and worked the slide and trigger 100's
of times. I got the slide smooth, and smoothed up the trigger.

The Rock Island slides fit real snug on the frame. They have
a pretty good trigger. Mine is very accurate.

If you do that with a well designed weapon like the 1911 A1,
you are not likely to have any failures of the gun.

I have a Beretta 92 clone that is the same way. That design,
and the 1911 are so well designed, they almost can't fail under
most situations.

Happy Sh@@tin,

Tabdog

Here's my Beretta 92 clone,

I have about 2 acre with woods in the back. This is my
gun for those " WHAT'S THAT NOISE " moments late at
night.

It has a 120 lumen concentrated bean light with a really
strong laser and an 18 round 9mm magazine.

I have about 1,200 rounds through it without a single
failure,

Happy Huntin,

yeah the blond just didn't look right on that one....brunette definitely looks better.

Beautiful .45 Tabdog. You cleaned it up and tuned it nicely. I really like the 1911's.... I have a 1991A1 that is a total custom job from a noted gunsmith... that little beauty shoots better than I do (that is good, because if they are not hitting the target, I know for sure it is me that is the problem).
