I’m pretty sure I saved a farmer some grief today:

That baby was some pretty heavy gauge steel - about 1/4” thick and weighed at least 15-20 lbs! And it was protruding at the perfect angle to shred farm equipment tires!

My good deed didn’t earn me the key to the city, but I did find the key to a tractor

It's a good deed to practice, in a farm field as well as anywhere to remove those trash items.
The Farm fields I detected, the farmers are always Happy when you take out the tire poppers!

That definitely can damage a tire. About $0.11 per pound scrap weight. As far as the key goes I'm a Ford guy I like it.

Is that part of a disc blade?

Good job! Looks like a ploughing disc?

I initially thought the same thing - but then I was having a hard time imagining what could actually break a plow disc of that thickness!! Plus the overall shape just wasn’t quite right. Now I’m thinking it might actually be a moldboard - maybe from a walking plow since it’s relatively small - or a share point:

Good job Ben, good karma. I'll bet the guy went nuts trying to find that key. HH Mark

Thanks Mark! I hope he didn’t drop it while he was dealing with the broken moldboard - that day would have went from bad to worse in a hurry!

Agreed - farmers have always expressed appreciation when they hear I’ve removed the tire hazards!

That was very good of you !

I'm sure some of those farm equipment tires could be fairly costly.

I can only imagine - not just the cost of the tire, but the time consumed dealing with replacing it!

Yep - there was no doubt I had to take it out! I was initially afraid it’d be something buried too deep or too heavy to get out easily, but it turned out to be pretty manageable.

I like the key too - I’m hoping to nail it down to a particular model with the distinctive “W” or upside-down “V” crest on the back, but so far no real luck. I’ve found several similar examples online that claim it might date from the 50s or 60s, and may be a car/truck key rather than a tractor.
