It's not my coin but one guy on our Polish forum claimed to found this coin in the ground. It's a seated Liberty dollar, but it has "O" on it, so it seems it's from the New Orleans mint. But it also seems that such dollar coins were minted there in 1846, 1850, 1859 and 1860 only. Is it possible that it's a geniuine coin? Or is it a counterfeit one? Unfortunately on our Polish forum we don't have American coin specialists, so I decided to ask here.

Look up Chinese fake silver dollars, they are faking them by the tens of thousands. ...I would not doubt that it is a fake and he is setting someone up to rip off

They didn't even begin to produce them in New Orleans until 1846. Prior to that they were ALL made in Philadelphia

FAKE

He may have found it ..but its not real.

It is a real shame how they are ruining the fun of collecting , I hear even experienced collectors have trouble telling them apart . ,,,,.HH

If anyone hasn't looked into the Chinese counterfeit coin industry, do so, it is a real eye opener. ...my buddy bought a bunch off ebay, then he found out they were fakes....all of them

"The 1843 O prices are not listed but are around 3.4x to 4x as valuable in general for high MS."

Nothing that I can find suggesting it ISN'T real. Take it to an expert.

Yeah, I found this website too and that's why I don't know what to think about it. A lot of websites I trust say 1843 O dollars were not minted but this one says they were indeed minted and are "available". And before I'll reply to the owner I'd like to be sure I know the truth. So far the majority of opinions are it's a fake.

Redbook has no such coin listed. Redbook is the authority. Looks like that cointrackers site may be in cahoots with the Chinese.

Thank you very much for your replies. So it's a fake. I notified the owner about it.
