Default Oldest looking padlock I've found

I know there are guys who collect these.

This looks hand-made - parts don't fit together perfectly, lots of slack, etc.

Any info about it?

I'm not a collector of locks, but I think yours is from the 1890-1910 era. Again pretty much a guess.

No incredibly useful info here, but I found the front plate to a padlock just like that in southern Indiana. It was at a homestead site used from mid/late 1800s to 1940-ish.

I didn't know what the item was until I happened upon this link here:

Unfortunately I don't have any more info on the padlock. I'm super jealous that you found the whole thing though!!

I found an old padlock and came across a web site for old restraints etc. That guy gave me some info on mine, let me find the link and I will post it.

We all three have the same lock! That's cool. If it's that common in different parts of the country, it may be a Sears lock.

A bit more info... I need to clean my up and look for the maker's mark.

An identical warded padlock is illustrated in the 1895 Montgomery Ward & Co. catalog. At that time it retailed for 12, or $1.25/doz. A lock of the same design, but with a maker-marked shackle, is listed in Arnall's book, The Padlock Collector. Attributed to the Slaymaker-Barry Co. (c. 1888-1900), it is valued at $15 in Very Good condition.
