Start out in jewelry mode. When you get so tired of digging pull tabs that you want to throw it into the water, switch to coin mode.

I also think jewelry mode should cover most of the good beach finds in dry sand. Below are some VDI numbers of some targets found with the ACE 300. Your VDI numbers are probably similar. It's a good practice to track what your targets read at different depths.

If you're looking for gold, go with jewelry mode.
I've found 6 rings and 2 of them were gold. Both in dry sand.
You're going to come across alot of foil.
Do some tests with gold and see where the numbers are.
