Your friend is into some really early stuff. The eagle button was made around 1826. Armitage died in 1826 but the order for the buttons was filled by William Pincyin. I can't read the back mark on the Virginia button, but being one piece, it should be about the same time period. Next hunt, I want to go with you.:D
 
I can find a Virginia button made by "Young Smith & Co, New-York", but I can't find a record of them in Philadelphia. I suspect it may actually say New York. Still dates back to the early 1800s. Super good find.

found a few with dennis cox when I come to Stafford/ Fredericksburg. I can show you a few good spots :)

Man, that would be just fantastic. The spot that I have spent much of the last year, in Stafford, has been very good to me. However, there is not much chance at all of finding anything Confederate there. It was a large Union encampment.

was it I that talked to you on the phone once and shared where to go. is it off 95 140 exit area?
