On base here there's a dirt pit about the size of half a football field dug out about 20' deep. Is this going to be a good place to hunt?

Maybe on the sides, but I'd think that there wouldn't be a whole lot of man-made metal 20 feet down...

Look for construction area
You are better off looking in areas where they may be just scraping a few inches to a foot to level a surface.

Can you detect on base? I was told here that every Marine Corps base is off limits. Air Force may be different, how did you go about finding out? Everyone here just gives me the run around. Any help would be great, thanks Ssgt.
