I often find Horse and Buggy hardware while relic hunting like that shown but not being an expert on such things I'm not sure what they are. I'm guessing they have something to do with holding or guiding the reins from the drivers hands to the bridle and bit but I'm not sure. Any Ideas??

The old one piece gilted buttons I run across also intrigue me, this one shown comes from a mid 1800's site and I'm amazed at how they can still have gold gilting on them after 170 years or so.

The back mark on this one is hard to read but it has an "Extra" mark and other letters that I can't make out. Button books focus more on Military and Academy buttons than these run of the mill One piece buttons.

I'm thinking it is a Waterbury Extra Back mark but that's a guess, might be Scovill

Anyway, these old things are fun to find and I always wonder about their origin, owner, and use. Farm or Military??
