Was digging around out in the hills near an old homestead. Made my way over to a big cottonwood trees and the Safari let out a loud scream. Dug it up about 8 inches. It'd definitely iron and appears to be some sort of tool. Any of you clever folks have any idea what this may be? Hand for scale lol

At the original homestead there is a date carved into the sandstone "1878". Not sure if it's that old though.

Only thing I can think of is a gusset that never got welded in place. Would also explain the small 45* cutout, to straddle a bead of weld.

Sorry I have no clue. But are those .40s that you are reloading?
 
strictly a guess: it looks to me like the broken off end of one of those "dog" things used in a sawmill to hold the log on place while it's being sawed.

That does look about right. Wonder what the heck one of those is doing way out in the middle of no where lol.
