World War II US D-Day invasion tank unearthed in France

An American tank that formed part of the 1944 D-Day invasion force was discovered buried under a street in northern France.

Nice story! What I wonder is, what did they push it down a hole with? And if they had something that powerful, why didn't they just move it out of the way?

I can only assume it went into a bomb crater, and they needed to get the road back in action, and had no means of getting it out.
Or perhaps there was a big hole, the tank was out of action, and was used to help fill the hole in ?

I know some people who hunt actively for old aircraft wrecks and alike..they've already excavated the remains one soviet SB-3 bomber and are now in a process of excavating another. They also know a site where two German halftracks are supposed to be buried. They were abandoned in 1944, their transmissions broke and instead of repairing they were just dumped in an old sandpit. Dunno when they dig out those, the problem is that that pit was filled with other junk and covered and there are buildings nearby...
