Default Navy eagle button, authentic or not?

Found this in a location that holds alot of history. Could this be authentic, I can't find exact button on any search, thanks gumba

For your sake, I hope so. That thing is incredible. The fact that it shows cannon balls, cannon balls for crying out load, is fantastic. The patina and wear look old. Hope it's real for ya.

What does the back look like? If it is rusted out, it would most likely be a civilian fashion/blazer type button. This button has many variations and has been much copied.

On that variety you can also tell that it is fashion from the placement of the loop on the end of the anchor. On the left side as we look at it, that loop should extend over to the line of stars. Yours falls short of that.
