I was researching Nevada history and the California Trail. The Mormon Settlers were the primary suppliers of food and supplies for the miners during the California gold rush. What I didn’t know was the Church called all the Mormons back to Utah in 1857. The Mormons walked away from their settlements leaving everything behind. The first location where gold was discovered in Nevada was worked by about 100 Mormons from 1850-1857. This was just below Virginia City.
