Been detecting for over a few years now and these are the first significant CW finds I've dug about 3 weeks ago. Dug a few Sharpes before but nothing like these. Best guess with the conditions (both the box plate and button where found within 4' of each other) they where found, likely they were tossed out in the back yard in the 20's or 30's or so when the old soldier died in the log house that used to stand at this site. Was found about 8" down. At first thought it was one of several old brass cow tags I have found there but after wiping dirt off of it in the hole the letters started to appear. I have a few pics on my cell phone of the hole. Just have to figure out how to download to the computer. Will post these when I figure that out. Enjoy

Here are a few better pics of the artillery cuff button. There's no shank on the back so no pick of that unless you all want one.

Okay, see there is some writing on the back, Horstman Bros. & Co. Then it looks like a P? and L on part of it but hidden by crusty stuff. So took a pic.
