Fun to find! Also called petal bells. (design looks like flower petals) Usually they were brass..does it still have the ball on the inside?

I'm strictly a coin hunter but have found 3 bells so far,2 that size and one twice that size. Yours is in pretty stellar shape,really nice find Claddy!

Awesome, I've found 3 bells, all #2's
They are brass, not pewter, they turn darker colors or get a patina from being buried in the dirt. a sort of oxidation.

My great grandfather pulled ice from the Mississippi river, to a storage house, with a team of horses.
His horses wore these bells.

Very nice. Saw a post recently of someone who found a crotal bell with a makers mark and they were able to research it back to who made it. Great find.
