I am currently looking to purchase a metal detector but I need one that is capable of detecting through rock (I live in Southern Utah with a lot of sandstone, silt stone, and clay stone), any suggestions about which model and brand I should go with would help.

If gold prospecting is your thing, I would suggest a PI machine; however, while I've never tried it, I'm pretty confident nothing is going to shoot a signal through rock.

PI's tend to be more.money, but they are the choice for prospectors since they are killer on small medium conductors.
