Need Help! Shoe Buckle Or Belt Buckle

Dud this up Saturday and not sure what it is. It did have a pin go thru the middle but broke off. Did this come off a shoe or a belt and what time period would you put it.

Looks like a shoe buckle, and an early one. I would think mid. 1700s.

it could also be a knee buckle from the same period as Iron Patch said

Seems to be for a big curved area..too curved for a belt, shoe or knee, it looks faily meaty so id say shoe
