Does anyone know how to find where old landfills and dumps, other than toxic waste dumps are? Also, does anyone know when widespread municipal waste dumps like the ones we have now were created?

The places I usually find them are on a river with a high bank , I guess the thinking was that everything would wash into the river and be gone , or atleast it would be out of sight. Ravines , the back sides of hills , or near the ocean they were in the bluff behind the sand dunes. But I stumble on to them all the time near rivers.
I find them all the time. Old dump sites anyway. I usually just stumble across them. When I am looking for them I look on the back side of properties near creeks and streams or the far sides of farm fields. Also along some roads right outside of small town. If there is an embankment I tend to find dumps lol
