I contacted The Henry Ford concerning my brass Pope-Toledo wheel cap.

I had a few questions concerning cleaning and they kindly replied with a link to their website that tells you how to take care of brass artifacts.

Thank you for your inquiry. I was unable to find any information within our collection regarding Pope-Toledo auto hubcaps. We have a few brochures from the company that have black and white illustrations of the vehicles that were offered for sale, but the hubcaps are so small in these illustrations that they provide no details. I have attached a scan of one of these images.

I have also provided a link to our website that tells you how to take care of brass artifacts. This information was compiled by our conservation staff: https://www.thehenryford.org/docs/d...rd-brass-amp-bronze-conservation.pdf?sfvrsn=2

Your best bet for information about Pope-Toledo automobiles is to contact one of the brass-era car clubs. One that comes to mind is the Horseless Carriage Club of America. I have provided a link to a page on their website about brass hubcaps: http://www.hcca.org/tech.php?5.

I hope this information is helpful.
