Figured some of you might get a kick out of this.. I remember my dad telling me about leaverite when i was real young.
Leaverite is a slang term used by geologists, minerologists, archaeologists, and amateur rock collectors to identify a specimen in the field that may look interesting but is actually not. Rocks identified as such should be left in situ, as they are not worth the hassle of transportation or deserving of a place in a respectable collection.
There are several kinds of leaverites: 1. Man Made Features 2. Unrocks 3. fossils and Pseuodofossils 4
The term 'leaverite' derives from the phrase 'leave it right there"
