Button question about years.

So until what year did they stop using the ring on the back of buttons? I was under the impression that anything with a ring on back is pre 1900. But now i think I am wrong.

Can anyone shed light on button making on when they stopped, or which button continued to use the ring cause i know they switched do the standard ''4 hole'' after 1900, But continued to use the ring for certain buttons just not which ones..

That is a good question, while I am not sure I would think they still make some buttons with the ring on the back, maybe decorative buttons.

I could not find a definitive answer doing a quick search, but I did find "The National Button Society", an organization for buttons, maybe if they have a contact email address you could email them,
