Is this a pocket watch, and based on what you can see, should I go back and look for the case (would it be gold?) ? 18?? Dairy site. "Elain"

I gather it says Elgin, rather then Elain, but I’m not much help beyond that.
Oh wait, “Safety Pinion” is on the back piece. And that’s all I know.

I have a collection of Elgin pocket watches. I repair and collect them

if the case isn't nickle or silver it's gold plated most likely

I also service and repair antique pocket watches. The parts you have found are from a low jewel count movement - as in 7 jewels. Anything's possible but I'd say there's at least a 99% chance that it was not cased in a solid gold case. I'd say it was in a silveroid case. It's still a nice find.
