I wish I could detect in UK! My motherland is Deutchland/Denmark.
A lot better rules than in California... if you find anything over 50 years old or worth over $100, you turn it over to the police, never to be seen again... 
I'm sure you can guess how many people abide by those rules. U.K. actually has fair rules, that I would gladly abide by.
