Dual Field operation

I have a ring that is not picked up by the dual field but it has a vdi of 4 on my v3i. I thought the df picked up everything. I even put fresh batteries in and had same result.
Any thoughts ?

In stock position. Then I adjusted all knobs differently. Never picked up. The ring is a brass gold mix.
