We got up early, hit Chick Fil A, and then went into a historic local neighborhood to do some curb strips. We got skunked at our first site. My son was frustrated. To encourage him I said, "look, let's go to our next location - people walking by will see us and who knows, maybe someone will invite us to hunt their yard?"

So our next stop was a curb strip parallel to a large 1911 home. Got some modern clad there, but nothing old. A lady with her dog walked by and asked if we found anything good. We made small talk and she invited us to hunt her early 1900's front yard. It just so happens that she has her grass stripped down to dirt for an upcoming irrigation system! How perfect is that? My son was so excited (and dad was too).

We searched her yard for about 1.5hrs, pulling about $1.60 in clad, lead pieces, a button and some other odds and ends. The soil was so mineralized that we could not crank up the sensitivity to much more than about 3 or 4 bars above the lowest setting. Thus our depth/penetration was not ideal. I think this is where my upcoming AT-MAX will come in handy. I can manually GB it and crank it up a bit. We'll see.

Anyway, my son is running a grid pattern and ends up between a tree and the driveway and gets a solid penny hit on his A300. He looks down and right on top of the grass is an IHP! At first I was convinced that someone played a joke on us; maybe someone driving by had pity and threw it in the yard. But no, my son swears it was right ON TOP of the grass. The ONLY explanation I can surmise is that the landscaping crew who scraped the grass recently and prepped the dirt unearthed this little gem, which is a key date and had only 16.2 million produced.

Needless to say, my son smoked me with the best find of the day, and I couldn't be happier!

He is going to cost you in detector upgrades. Quickly get him into baseball. Only a glove and a bat....

Great looking kid! He's a happy guy! Congrats!
