Brass item dug at 1830 home site

This brass ring is thick. It weighs about 9 ounces. I found it at a chimney about a like from the nearest paved road. I feel that this item has a specific purpose but have no idea what it is. It is 3.5" in diameter, and has 3 square nail holes in it. The house is definitely 1800s and my estimate is 1830. Help!

My only thoughts were of it possibly being a brass hub ring for a wagon wheel. Did they make them out of brass? I know I dig steel ones regularly.
