Default Buckle of sorts?

Anyone have a clue what this could be? Was found near a impacted round ball at a site that does have some colonial roots.

It surely looks old, colonial old. Bronze I'm presuming. I once saw a colonial sling buckle that was similar.

i was thinking it looked like it was riveted to leather. maybe a neck collar buckle?
