Does anyone know what minerals in certain soils can cause silver to turn pink?Ive found what would have been nice coins recently but theyre totally eaten in bits and pink.Thanks.

What type of coins are these? Where are you finding them? Some fertilizers, used in fields and parks, are quite acidic and attack metal. Some more information would be helpful. RickO

Late 1700s,early 1800s 90% sterling silver shilling and sixpence.Dont know what other information I can give.Wouldnt have thought much fertilizer would have been sown where I found these.

If not fertilizer, the soil must be highly acidic. If you have a garden center or plant nursery in the area, take some soil to them and have them test it. Very unusual to have silver react in such a manner in soil. RickO
