When Coils Met Clay

Here is all of the coins, clad, and pull tabs that I have found lately. I found these at a city park, a couple of tennis courts that are near a fire station, and a couple of other spots.

Also, I recently got permission to hunt at some land that dates back to the mid to late 1830's from a local church. I found my first silver coin there, a 1842 Seated Liberty Dime, within about 15 minutes of hunting. It was about 10 feet away from a dry creek and the soil was really black like potting soil. It took about 2 hours of electrolysis before I could even tell what it was.

I also found a star with a mason symbol on it, some bullets, a belt buckle, and a little bit of clad. I thought that it was going to be a killer spot, but I have hunted over half of the land and I haven't found any more old coins. This coin is extremely grungy and I have tried just about everything under the kitchen sink to clean it! I really wish that I hadn't used silver polish on it, because it gave the coin a weird patina or color. These are the best pics that I could get of the coin. The last pic of the coin is what it looked like before being cleaned.

1 Seated Liberty Dime = 20 points

36 Pull tabs x .25 = 9 points
5 Quarters x .25 = 1.25 points
14 Dimes x .25 = 3.5 points
5 Nickels x .25 = 1.25 points
46 Pennies x .25 = 11.5

Total = 46.5 Points

Here is all of the stuff that I have found since last Friday. Friday morning, I decided to go down to the Chattahoochee River. I went hunting for a couple of hours and did some exploring. Also, saw a fully restored paddle boat going down the river. I wish I had a camera with me. I also tried using my vibra-probe underwater, for the first time, and dug up a decent amount of coins from the river bank.

I took Saturday off to run a bunch of errands and watch some football. Unfortunately, the Georgia Bulldogs got their butts kicked by Alabama. :mad:

Then, on Sunday, I went hunting in the woods at a city park by my house for a couple of hours. I found all kinds of weird stuff there. Finally, today, I tried out an old bus stop and it proved to be a good spot. I found a ton of clad, pull tabs, and trash, but no more silver. I apologize for the picture quality. The first pic is of all of the coins and pull tabs that I found. The second and third pics show a bunch of miscellaneous weird items that I have found recently. Also, I wrote down the wrong date on that first pic with the coins and pull tabs. I should have wrote down 10/01/08, instead of 9/1/08. Duh!

17 Quarters x .25 = 4.25 points
9 Dimes x .25 = 2.25 points
1 Nickel x .25 = 0.25 points
50 Pennies x .25 = 12.5 points
22 Pull Tabs x .25 = 5.5 points

Total = 24.75 Points

I went hunting for a little while today at a local park. For some reason, I just couldn't get into it. The best find was a silver charm. I figured that I would go ahead and post the points, since I won't be able to hunt again for a week or so.

14 Clad Coins x .25 = 3.5
5 Pull Tabs x .25 = 1.25

Total = 4.75 points

Treasure Products sent me a replacement Vibra-Probe 570 about a week ago. After, my other one broke. Thanks for all of you help guys! They have great customer service.

I have been hunting mostly at bus stops that are located in the older part of town. Bus stops are pretty good places to hunt, but there is a ton of trash! Unfortunately, I didn't find anymore silver. Just the "usual suspects."

I recently got permission to hunt in a park that was built in 1946 and a few of the coins are from there. Also, I found out where an old ferry boat crossing used to be. It is about 10 miles from my house, but I think it will definitely be worth the drive, if I can get permission to hunt there.

I am not sure what happened to my partner? I haven't heard from him in a very long time. I hope that he is alright!

86 Pennies, 4 Nickels, 24 Dimes, 9 Quarters = 123 Clad Coins x .25 = 30.75 Points

I am going to count this ring as junk jewelery, unless I find out otherwise.
The story about how I found this ring is in the Stories and Pictures section.
I also have a bunch of clad that I am going to add later.

1 Junk Ring = 10 Points

Total = 10 Points

I have been cleaning out an old sandy tot lot over the past few days. I don't think that anyone else has been hunting there because there is lots of older coins (a '64 Penny, a '64 Nickel, and a '65 Dime) and I have already found 2 junk rings there.

78 Clad Coins = 19.5 Points
11 Pull Tabs = 2.75

Total = 22.25 Points

New Team Total = 808.72Original.11.10.08.jpg

I decided to delete this post, because I don't think the item is a junk ring.
I think that it is just a POS charm that broke off of a necklace or a bracelet and does not qualify as junk jewelry.
So, please do not count this item as a junk ring.
Thanks!

I finished cleaning out an old sandy tot lot last Sunday.
There wasn't really much left.
I found most of this stuff, yesterday, at another tot lot in a different section of the same park.
So far, it seems like a pretty good spot.
There is hardly any trash there and it has a killer skate park!
I am not sure how old this new spot is?
The park itself dates back to around 1946 or so.
The oldest coins that I have found there, so far, is a '64 Penny and Nickel and a '65 Dime and Quarter.
Also, I found one of those 1976 Bicentennial Quarters.
Too bad that is not silver. :roll:
