Antique sterling brooch, clip? Help please!

Found this at my cabin, it dates back into the early 1900's.

Does anybody know what it is? It's very light and looks old. It's not a spring back the clip is rigid. It's stamped 'sterling', 'reinforced', and pat. 2,327138

Any help would be great!!! Thanks. :grin:

Thank You canudiggit!!!! I tried to look up the patent and not having any experience in that area I found nothing and got bored.

It's an earring! :yes:

The back isn't springy at all so they couldn't have been comfortable.
