This ruined my night. I am a student @ tech and as if our Hokie community hadn't already been rocked by the tragic crime that took the lives of one of our police officers...we have these disgusting animals coming to protest the slain officer's funeral tomorrow.

I'll be joining the counter-protest tomorrow. Last year when I counterprotested via my truck's air-horn the cops told me to stop. I don't think that they will this time.

Sad to hear that. These folks are truly the lowest forms of garbage around. The Vets have learned how to deal with thes a-holes quite well, hopefully your community will be able to do the same.

hmmmm, so wbc is going to picket for what they claim as the police not doing their job? These people truly are numbskulls for picketing against the police not protecting citizens when they are the ones causing the police to have to use their resources on their stupidity. Some people are just too ignorant to connect the dots of reason.

I truly 'hate' very few people. The Westboro folks are among that select group.

Living in Kansas we run into these "people" all the time. The local newspaper just did an article on one of the grandaughters and what her plans are for the future to help her mom, who basically runs everything. I am on the Security staff of my church and we get reports of their actions and disruptions at area church's and funerals all the time. I try to "live and let live", but these individuals test my patience. There has been a split in the organization with key family members leaving. I hope it continues.

That's got to be one of the lowest forms of protest. A funeral, isn't just about honoring the dead, it's to help families and friends to accept the loss, and move on with their lives.

Never really understood how people can believe that it's only the police that are allow to 'protect and to serve', it's everyone's right and responsibility. The police do what the can to reduce crime, but the are spread kind of thin through out the population. We each, don't have our own personal cop assigned to protect us 24/7. The citizen must get involved with their own protection, and be more aware of what's going on around them, so they don't become victims. When a citizen witnesses a crime, or suspects something isn't quite right, they need to call the police in, if possible, or take the initiative and handle it on their own. In most cases, the police can only arrive, after there is a victim, and with some help, maybe they can prevent future victims. Cops are people too, sometimes they make bad choices, just like the rest of us.

It's too bad that the gas stations in the area still do business with them. It would be fun to see them have to push their bus all the way back to Westboro.

No, unless you've heard something different, WBC usually claims that the officer's/soldier's death is divine retribution because of tolerance towards homosexuals, only they use more hateful words.

I believe that was why the Patriot Guards were founded. A motorcycle group that escorts funerals and stands between the funeral and the protesters. I can't see how that group can use a church as their base. I don't know of any Kansans that like them either. A man was arrested locally for following them with a car full of weapons. One of these days they'll push someone to far.

In the past I've had to go to public Klan rallies to get news video. Always hated that because it's pretty obvious if the cameras weren't there, they wouldn't be. Very glad we haven't had one of these in over a decade.

As for these Westboro morons, one of these days someone is going to take a bat to some of these people. I know vengance is up to the Big Guy, but maybe I could get a pass on giving one or three of them a big fat lip. I'm sure somebody at VT has a paintball gun they could put to good use. Maybe spray paint "God hates Westboro Baptist Church" on their newly flat tires.

If they would have protested when we had the NIU shootings, it's a safe bet they would NOT have had an incident-free protest.

"We the jury find Baconator.....not guilty".

"We the jury find Baconator.....not guilty".

"...by reason of sanity".

Besides, there are actions that are so repugnant and abhorrent to decency and social order by any reasonable man, that there really ought to be a loophole somewhere in the tomes of law that makes the "he needed killing" defense a done deal if applied to the untimely demise of the phelps gang.

The world would be a better place without them.

How would you like to be a police officer having to defend these idiots' First Amendment rights? I say drop their protection, get the cameras out of there and let the "Free Market" sort it out.

What bothers me is that they give the true Christians a bad name. Im willing to be if you look up the word hypocrite there would be a group photo of them.
