Ok fellow pirates, I just bought 2 CF 1000mm shafts at a good price of $48 delivered in a week! One will by for my Excal which I’m upgrading an older aluminum Anderson shaft I believe it is. Question – it seems someone replaced a spring clip for one that wasn’t stainless. I know I will have to drill it our so that I can take it out and re-use the lower arm when I build my CF shaft but where do I buy new ones? I don’t see them on line.

Gloves – I was at Home Depot and came across these Husky gloves (about $9) that are meant for mechanics with all that protective rubber on the outside. However if you wear them backwards they add extra padding on your hand which is exactly what my hand specialist and physical trainer said I needed to help out my trigger finger syndrome. I will be cutting off the fingertips of course. They will be used tomorrow with my new surprise!

I purchased a couple of shafts from Doc's detecting supply I Las Vegas some years back . They had plastic spring clips. Don't know if he might have some of them but worth a try.

Good luck on that trigger finger. I have had my left hand middle finger injected three times. PA said that they would not inject it any more so if it happens again I will have to have surgery to release the tendon.

My wife says the surgery is MINOR. But what would an Operating Room Registered Nurse Know??

I have a strong suspicion that I know what is in the box.

I had the shots 2 years ago and they hurt like crazy! I won't do that again since it'll just come back. May do the surgery this winter break on both my hands lets see.

Google kayak paddle spring clips on feebay. You can get them cheap from China but you may be waiting like i am for a headphone part for over a month if you do:shock:

The hand surgeon that I see has his PA numb the area before she does the injection so No Pain involved. Cant say the same about having the Basil Joint (base of thumb) removed due to arthritis. . I let the pain get ahead of the meds and I have never had anything hurt like that did.

Not looking forward to having the joint on my right hand done but getting close to the point that I am going to have to have it done. Six weeks of pt and no detecting for possibly even longer.

Its funny you guys are talking about trigger finger as I only developed the symptoms in my pinky since starting metal detecting!!!! Any correlation perceived?

Gripping too hard will definitely cause the problem. I had two discs removed from my neck and in trying to hehab my left hand I was using a hand grip and caused two trigger fingers. Try not gripping so tightly.

Get a LARGER handle grip....... solved mine.

You can use the plastic spring clips on pool equipment as well. But personally...... id just change it out for SS. Cheap to do ..... what ever few years? I tell you something else id do........ drill a hole just above the coil connector head on the lower shaft. Its lets all the water and sand out.

Whites or garret directly.. Think they are a buck or so. Most on fleabay aren't made for salt water. Can always drill a hole straight through and use a nylon bolt/butterfly.... skinny shaft would have been perfect to try out. Add a supersized grip of needed

Felix,
Where did you order the 2 1000mm CF shafts from. $48 seem to be a great price.
Ebay - They came from Japan in less than 1 week. They were listed as the seller's last 2. I get a feeling somebody in Japan is buying them in bulk from China and reselling and delivering much quicker.

Why the h3ll do you care Felix? You're "Noxing it". In two months, the Excal will be collecting dust.

It's a sad, sad day.

Instead of spring clips you could just use any old plastic nut and bolt...

X-2

I think some of the early anderson shafts they used non SS spring clips. Seen that before..

One thing I do also is on the arm cuff. I always use one SS flat head bolt, I've broken a few nylon/plastic bolts at that location before.

Felix

Are you dirt digging with those gloves , i just use black 9 mil, 50 pack to avoid blisters, Harbor freight or Amazon, i found 3 × L on Amazon, Earl
